“ALWAYS CHALLENGE YOURSELF TO TRY NEW THINGS AND STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE”

Hi Edna, How are you?

Hello , I’m fine hope you are doing well and happy newear btw.

Happy new year to you too! You are an actress, how did you get started?

Well first I started playing some roles at elementry, my teachers always Said I had a kind of vibe to hype people and always acting even I’m just telling a story.

Is there a particular film or series you watched growing up that made you want to act?

Yeah , Well I was Born in Cape Verde and when I was a little girl we always watched brazilian soaps and After watching an episode my friend and I always tried to copy them and pretending we where the actors. I don’t really remember the name of the soap but it has a big influence on my childhood.

Sometimes I even played roles that  I was sick and took  medicines just to make it feel more real. My mom could kill me when she found out.  You are from Cape Verde, do you go back often? What is your favourite thing to do when you go to Cape Verde?

To be honest I just went to Cape Verde last month for an emergency. After 10 years not being in my island was kind of scary but I loved it and it motivated me to go as soon as possible . There is some fire in my body again and I think that’s what I needed.

So what I would love to do next time is spending time with my family and making new memories again.

And or course eating a lot of mango’s and guava’s.

And swimming in our salty see.

Let's talk a little more about your acting career. What is the favorite role you ever played?

Playing a gangster. Don’t ask me why but I love to do it, as you know I’m a woman but having that kind of man/ gangster vibe gives me power.

And I can play a bit on stage because I’m totally not a gangster and really girly. It’s the opposite.

Do you prefer working on stage or in front of the camera? Why?

To be honest I like both, but if I have to chose I Will prefer on stage.

When you are on stage you have an connection with people. It’s more scary and it gives me more adrenaline. I like to look people in the eyes when I’m saying something. I think like that the person on stage and the audions have an connection. And it makes it more personal.

How do you prepare for a role, especially when it’s outside of your comfort zone?

Oh, um, so let’s say I get a role where I have to play an angry mother or stepmother—I always try to start from within myself.

For example, if I imagine myself as the child, what would make me afraid of a stepmother or angry mother? I take that and incorporate it into my role as the angry stepmother. And of course, I draw from my own experiences as well.

Watching other films and observing people also helps a lot.

If you could play any role or collaborate with any director in the future, who would it be?

Of course I would love working with adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah.  And Anthony NTI

How do you maintain your confidence and motivation in such a competitive industry?

First and foremost, I remind myself why I do it and what I do it for.

I don’t see it as a competition because I believe in everyone’s unique timing. And of course, everyone is different.

What are your best tips to handle rejection or tough auditions?

Of course, it’s frustrating and demotivating, but learning not to give up is key. Just keep trying and believe in yourself. You have to think, "Okay, it didn’t work out here, but maybe it will somewhere else." Always find another way to stay active and engaged. I mean, Beyoncé was rejected four times, but look at her now. I’d bet the people who turned her down regret it now!

Favorite curse word?

Filha da  mae ( don’t ask me why). But when I say it, it really comes from deep within, and sometimes it even sounds kind of beautiful.

Any exciting project you are working on?

Oh yes! We’re premiering on the 17th, 18th, and 19th of April at De Singel (WheThePeople).

The piece is called Heimwegen. Heimwegen dives into family bonds—ties as leaky as a sieve and bonds as strong as a dike. It’s about wanting to mend those leaks and, at times, wanting to break free from those bonds. About clashing values and shifting dynamics. It’s a beautiful ode to the art of fumbling through life.

Tell us something to inspire the culture!

Don’t focus on just one thing; instead, explore what else you can achieve. Always challenge yourself to try new things and step out of your comfort zone—that’s how you’ll get to know yourself best. And of course, always believe in yourself!
