Suncreek, tell us a bit more about yourselves. Where does the name come from? What does it mean??
We are a band that plays a mixture of garage rock, new wave and punk. The name suncreek comes from the translation of the street where our rehearsal room is located, which is zonnebeekseweg.
I read in an article that you guys are a beautiful mix of rare breeds! How did you guys meet and got this great group together?
Thibault, Florian and Arjo know each other from high school, the band was formed after a class reunion when robbe first joined as drummer, then flor as guitarist and jonas as keyboard player. We all have our own musical background and this mix of styles creates the sound that makes suncreek unique.
Crossover between New-Wave and Garage-Punk! Please elaborate! How did you get those sounds to work?
Punk and New-Wave find each other when we jam during the rehearsals, the New-Wave finds its way when we talk about the melody together, the punk emerges in the way we bring melody and energy to the music.
Let's dig into the group! Who's always too late for rehearsals? Who's the most nervous before a gig?
Jonas, and Jonas,because he hasn't been playing with us that long, but everyone can be nervous before a gig sometimes.
What unites you guys? What is the core of Suncreek?
The passion to make and play music, and to build a music scene in Ypres.
Have you ever messed up during a perfomance? If yes, please tell us everything.
Of course we are always VERY well prepared ;) But it sometimes happens that Thibault forgets his lyrics, or Robbe sometimes improvises in his drum fills.
Does it happen that one of you suddenly starts freestyling and you guys need to improvise?
We never freestyle, except in rehearsals when we write songs. On stage we all know perfectly what to play and when, so freestyling is not likely to happen.
What's coming? What can we expect in the future?
We are working hard on new music, trying to surpass ourselves every time. We are also currently planning recordings, so expect the best suncreek you've ever heard in the spring of 2023!
