“LISTEN TO YOUR INTUITION AND INNER CHILD.”

Hi Amrita! What's up? How's life going?

Life is going really well! I’m trying to take it day by day and not stress too much. I recently read something about a Dutch psychologist Roland Verschaeve and it really stuck with me. He said that everything you stress or worry about, is often based on the past or the future. Those are both things you literally cannot control so also not worth worrying about. I’m really trying to ride the wave right now and it’s going quite well. Just trying to give that advice to anyone who needs it.

You seem busy lately, traveling a lot. A few nice performances! How does that feel?

It feels amazing. Honestly I’m really feeding my passion and creativity and it gives me so much in return: beautiful people, experiences and lessons. Internationally, it’s really interesting to meet people with the same goals, interests and ambitions. I always try to combine my travels with music so I can always learn from it. You never know who you’re gonna meet abroad.

Can you tell us a bit more about what's coming? What can we expect?

This summer is gonna be all about training my creative muscles. I want to write a lot of good and bad stuff cause, you know, bad songwriting is also part of the process and creative growth. Other than that, honestly, having fun, going on little trips visiting my friends and feeling inspired by them. Hopefully by the end of the summer I’m starting a new exciting project.

From what I've seen you really reach people when you perform. How do you experience that on stage?

Getting on stage and expressing your lyrics and feelings that you’ve once written (alone in your room or in a bad mental place) is something so vulnerable and powerful at the same time. With my music I want to let people know that they aren’t alone. It would be really cool if I actually achieved that. I just want to be honest in what I say and sing. It’s really cool to be open about your feelings, even stronger to talk about them.

Who or what inspires you to keep going?
The fact that I don’t want to be 75 years old and tell myself ``I should have done that or I should have tried.’ I feel like I waited long enough and now I really don’t want to stop or let go of it. I kind of always knew I wanted to sing but I ignored that feeling and I never really prioritized it. At one point I just had to listen to myself and my intuition and start the journey. I still have so much to write about and so much to learn about this artform but the fun thing about it is that it feels so organic, almost like it’s meant for me to do.

Take us into your imagination. What would be the dream gig for you?
Honestly, I love intimate venues. I would love to do a Tiny Desk in a unique location and just vibe with the audience. Maybe one day, a girl is allowed to dream!

And if you could invite one artist to perform for you, who would that be?
For me or with me? That’s a hard one. My favorites are Erykah Badu, Mahalia, Joy Crookes, Hope Tala… I would love to meet them and talk about their inspiration in their lyricism and song-writing. That would be amazing.

Tell us something to inspire the culture!
Listen to your intuition and inner child. What you loved as a child sometimes is what you are looking for on your personal journey as an adult. Try being honest with yourself, it’s so refreshing. (laughs)

Thank you for having me! ❤
