“NO MORE WAITING TO BECOME. IT'S TIME TO SIMPLY BE!”

Hi Enise, how are you? How’s life treating you right now?

Hi, well yes everything is going fine here! Busy period as always in the summer with lots of custom-made pieces, shoots, events, festivals, etc. Must say though that since I stopped the physical store a year ago (yes, thanks to Covid) I hardly used any of my creativity for a long period of time. Guess it had to recharge and restart for a while!

For the people who don’t know who, tell us a bit more about yourself and your work?

I'm Enise, a driven and passionate jewellery designer who sees life through brightly coloured sunglasses! I actually started designing after my studies as a stylist. Always had a great love for jewellery. When I was young, I used to buy the jewellery first and then match my outfit to it! The designing is not learned, I already had it in me and could say that what I do now is a hobby that got out of hand.

Tell us a bit more about your background and maybe how this translates into your current work?

The biggest inspiration for me is that I want to strengthen the female energy with heart and soul and make it more conscious for young and old. Throughout the centuries we as women have been suppressed by culture and religion. We grew up in a too masculine world where there was power and strength. Where you as a woman almost had to hide yourself away. Play the gray mouse, so to speak. We are already a few years in that transition of course but not everyone is on board. I can do my bit here, I think.

Tell us a bit more about your background and maybe how this translates into your current work?

If we would look back in my younger years, I can say that I always was a "maverick" and still am (hehe). Both in my appearance and in my thinking. You can also see this in my work.)  I never make 2x the same piece. Every woman is unique, and I want to keep it that way in my creations.

What’s your dream collab/project?

My dream project would be to work together with different brands to be an addition to their complete outfit. I think, for example, "Essential". Blessed out of the box mix of colours and patterns. I always say COLOR IS POWER! Even if you have a shitty day, put on a bright yellow sweater and a giant pair of sunglasses, subconsciously you are lifting your own mood as well.

How do you get started? What inspires you?

How I proceed is difficult to explain. It is the emotion that always takes me into the design process. Designing = healing I always say. Each time I put in a piece of myself. Starting is always the hardest part,  finding how I want to express myself. Once started it goes smoothly, because then I start to see and feel. Then you have the finishing process. Quite a release then!

Inspiration can come from anywhere! From my walks in the woods to a young lady with a nice outfit. I often go and sit alone somewhere on a terrace. Then I look at people, not only the superficial looking but also through the people. What they radiate, what they do, how they move, eat, ... it's just to flip a switch and see it.

How did you come up with the name Edgy Statements?

The name "Edgy" actually came through my styling teacher. She said Enise, you always have an edgy side to your looks, your appearance. Even if you are dressed very simply, there is always some detail that makes it edgy. So " Edgy Statements " was born then.

What does art really mean to you?

What art means to me.... ART = HEALING. It's that simple. Art to me is an emotion expressed in matter. Not every emotion can be understood. Some come in hard and some make you dream away  and some can make you laugh or cry. Art is emotion if you allow it to.

Tell us something to inspire the culture!
No more waiting to become. It's time to simply be!
